Bank of East Asia Canteen

Celebrating deep roots and an ever-evolving identity with an urban touch.

Spatial Concept was tasked to revamp Bank of East Asia’s canteen and podium into an urban-chic communal space, inspired by the company’s heritage and story.

Located inside the canteen, the structural parametric tree is modelled after the Banyan trees that were planted over a century ago on the streets of Hong Kong. Very few of them remain, making them a living legacy. It is a symbol of BEA’s deep-rooted connection to Hong Kong since 1918 and with this we celebrate its ever-evolving identity.

Highlights:

  1. The dining hall of the canteen area is a multi-functional space during non-dining hours with diversified seating arrangement suited to different purposes.

  2. The outdoor podium is connected to the dining hall and can be used as an extension for extra capacity.

  3. Equipped with a barbecue grill and catering table, the podium also allows night-time events to be hosted there.

  4. A convenient ‘Tray Bay’ tray return rack is incorporated snugly into the trunk of the tree structure.
