Akin Gump
A future-ready law firm shaped by insight, agility and excellence
Spatial Concept was appointed to design and fit out Akin Gump’s new office located in The Henderson, one of the newest iconic office buildings in Hong Kong. The brief was to design a workplace that reflects the firm’s brand ethos, maximises space utilisation and enables a seamless relocation. Integration of the latest IT/AV capabilities is also a priority.
Design Narrative
Guided by Akin Gump’s four brand pillars—Active, Human, Specialist and Excellence—we translated the ethos into the spatial language: active curve elements for movement and flow; humanising touches with greenery and tactile finishes; flexibility in space utilisation; and excellence expressed through refined detailing and material quality. Flexible design allows the office to scale and adapt across day‑to‑day operations, events and future growth.
Materiality
To create a high-end and hospitality feel, timber panels, travertine stone, custom designed acoustic walls and decorative lighting are used throughout the client area . The subtle use of accent colour and pattern, drawn from the brand’s standard, adds identity without distraction.
Meeting Suite and Flexibility
A spectrum of meeting rooms are integrated to adapt to various needs whilst balancing comfort, clarity and confidentiality. Operable walls park neatly away, turning the 10‑person meeting room into a town‑hall venue. Writeable surfaces support brainstorms. Acoustic panels ensure discussions are kept within the meeting spaces. Seamless IT/AV integration supports reliable hybrid collaboration.
Open Office and Private Practice
Height‑adjustable workstations support staff’s physical wellbeing, complemented by private meeting pods, breakout points and clearly defined quiet and collaborative zones. Enclosed single and shared double offices feature full height glazed partitions and doors for maximising visibility and natural light to the office. Within each enclosed office, sit‑stand desks with fabric screens, profile‑lit bookshelves, artwork and accent acoustic panels create a calm, functional and high‑performance environment.
Wellness and Support
A wellness room provides a quiet retreat for personal needs, while utility areas and lockable storage respond to practical requirements and secure file management. A large pantry with park view provides a relaxing environment for lunch and coffee breaks, also doubling up as collaboration space.
By uniting brand‑led design, flexible planning and specialist functionality, Akin Gump’s new workplace at The Henderson delivers a sophisticated, agile and human‑centred environment—equally suited to focused legal practice, collaboration and client hospitality.
