The Atrium, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

Reimagining Hospitality with Modern Chinese Elegance

Spatial Concept is proud to lead the reimagining of The Atrium at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, a beloved dining destination known for its bright, soaring volume. Our brief combined refresh and uplift the restaurant image with clear licensing requirements: retain existing room and door locations, keep the entrance position and preserve the bar footprint while enhancing functionality. The design also responds to significant daily traffic and clientele, which includes government officials, company executives, exhibitors and visitors.

A Contemporary Chinese Garden

The design concept is inspired by a Chinese garden – we wanted to create a calm and relaxing space within a bustling Convention Center, for people visiting the exhibition and attending conferences. An elegant Chinese restaurant where guests can conduct business opportunities or simply enjoy a meal.

Materiality and Atmosphere

Warm finishes and natural references create a serene, modern Chinese atmosphere. The ante dining hall introduces a corner feature mural that conceals the former display kitchen window, setting a garden‑like mood under a whimsical leaf‑inspired lighting installation that celebrates the high ceiling. In the main dining hall, a combination of banquette seating and loose square tables to balance capacity and flexibility.

Bar and Service Hub

The existing bar is refreshed within its original footprint to become a multi‑functional focal point—combining POS, tea and beverage service, display and a sculptural platform for serving needs. Materiality is elevated with travertine to the counter, a black marble top and metal display shelving backed with translucent textured glass, all framed by hanging timber fins with soft uplighting.

Private Dining Suites and VVIP Room

Private Rooms are defined by vertical bronze‑accented screens with timber fins and a series of brush‑calligraphy nature paintings. Full‑height operable walls allow the three rooms to open into a single function suite with visual continuity, while a secluded VVIP room layers bronze and gold accents with refined furnishings for an intimate, elevated dining experience. The sense of quality extends to the washrooms, where marble vanities, framed mirrors and discreetly integrated accessories continue the refined narrative.

The Atrium now offers an elegant, calm and connected environment—a sophisticated yet welcoming setting that enhances guest experience and respects operational and licensing parameters.
